the time is set during the first time Nightmare moon tried to bring the eternal night only instead of it being night constantly, Princess Celestia tried to continue raising the sun despite the fact that the moon is in the sky. so Nightmare Moon covers the sun everyday so that there is an eclipse during the day and night hasn’t changed.
